Large, hand carved Oribe vase form by Kato Shinya (Sakusuke V). This large vessel was thrown round and later altered to the current form where the surface was meticulously hand carved in this bold repeat pattern around the form and then glazed over in a rich deep green Oribe glaze.
This vase measures 13.25" x 8" x 4" and is in excellent condition excepting for a small gold repair at the upper left corner of the first picture at the lip transition and still makes for a wonderful display piece and unique work by a well known ceramic craftsman. Beyond this the wood signed box was damaged in shipping at some point and has been repaired, the actual signed lid is still in perfect original condition. This is a great, classic and typical piece by Kato Shinya that also comes with the original price card from the exhibition this pot was in as No. 40 and 350,000 Japanese yen.
